In March 2007, the Board of Directors and members-at-large met to recast the Association's long-range strategic direction. The group also determined the Association's core purpose:
"To represent and advance campus public safety."
This is a list of the accomplishments of the past year and an outline of the initiatives undertaken in 2006-2007.
2006-2007 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Advocacy
1. Initiated contacts through the new Director of Government and External Affairs in Washington, D.C., with members of Congress and key staff at federal agencies, as well as professional associations such as the American Council on Higher Education (ACE). (Goal B)
2. Served as a resource to the House and Senate Education Committees on the Higher Education Reauthorization Act. (Goal B)
3. Met with U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of Justice officials to discuss on-going federal grants and new opportunities to continue developing and supporting campus preparedness training programs. (Goal B)
4. Testified before the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and the U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor on issues related to campus public safety. (Goal B)
5. Became a member of the Washington Higher Education Secretariat. As a new Secretariat member, participated in the on-going dialogue about the establishment of a national incident command center for college and university presidents facing manmade or natural disasters. (Goal B)
Homeland Security
1. Initiated a Mobile Incident Command System (ICS) training program to allow this three-day, simulation-based course to be offered in regions throughout the U.S. in addition to IACLEA’s four regional Incident Command sites. (Goal A)
2. Trained and certified a new class of 16 ICS instructors bringing the total number of ICS instructors to 46, and offered more than 25 sessions of the three-day course. (Goal A)
3. Produced and disseminated to members and non-members a Campus Preparedness Video/DVD to increase awareness and usage of the WMD/campus preparedness planning and training tools being developed under the Homeland Security grant.

4. Developed and disseminated an Executive Summary outlining the key findings and lessons learned by Gulf Coast campus public safety departments in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and how these lessons might apply to a terrorist attack or other catastrophic event. (Goal A)
5. Developed a Guide to Enhanced Communication between Campus Public Safety Departments and Federal-State-Local Emergency Response Agencies, including sample mutual aid agreements and memoranda of agreements between campus public safety departments and other mutual aid partners. (Goal A)
Web Site
1. Developed an on-line press room featuring the Association’s news releases, key campus public contacts, and links to other higher education and law enforcement organization web sites. (Goal A)
2. Reconfigured the Home Page to make all information easily visible and refreshed the page with new information on a weekly basis. (Goal A)
3. Added a Corporate Partnership page with information about sponsorship opportunities available under the 50th Anniversary Corporate Partnership Program. (Goal A)
4. Created a Membership Development Toolkit. (Goal A)
5. Enhanced the Campus Preparedness Resource Center by adding a Campus Emergency Operations Plan Guidelines document and supporting research material on incident action plans and emergency support functions, as well as the Guide to Enhanced Communication between Campus Public Safety Departments and Federal-State-Local Emergency Response Agencies. (Goal A)
Education
1. Held an e-learning seminar on college student Suicide Prevention. (Goal A)
2. Co-sponsored and provided trainers for several Clery Act compliance training programs in collaboration with Security On Campus, Inc. (SOC) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) under a U.S. Department of Justice grant. (Goal A)
3. Coordinated the completion and distribution of a “wellness” research study by Dr. Bruce L. Benson that surveyed U.S. institutional members on the professional frustrations and stress facing campus public safety chiefs and directors, and included conclusions and recommendations for promoting wellness. (Goal A)
4. Co-sponsored several pilot Campus Crime Prevention Training programs with the National Crime Prevention Council that was supported by a U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance grant. The pilots involved the presentation of a newly developed curriculum at several three-day seminars held at college and university campuses throughout the U.S. (Goal A)
Governance
1. Conducted a Member Needs Assessment to determine the wants, needs, and preferences of the members. (Goal A)
2. Conducted a strategic planning retreat attended by Board of Directors members and other key leaders to update the Association’s core purpose, values, and long-range strategic goals and strategies. Developed and adopted a new plan that will guide the Association through 2010. (Goal A)
Accreditation
1. Expanded web-based information to include copies of documents and contact information for agencies in the Accreditation process. (Goal A)
2. Launched a program of “comparative compliance” for CALEA accredited agencies. (Goal A)
3. Initiated a marketing plan, including distribution of the Accreditation brochure to members and other associations such as the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO). (Goal A)
Additional
1. Launched plans for the Association’s 50th Anniversary celebration in 2008, including the development of a commemorative publication, Five Decades of Success video, a video montage, and a Gala Dinner event at the Annual Conference to be held in Hartford, CT (Goal A)
2. Held two planning sessions to begin the process of developing a strategic and business plan for a National Center for Campus Public Safety, an initiative supported by a U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant. (Goal A)
3. Launched a 500 x 50 Membership Drive with the goal to recruit 500 new members by IACLEA’s 50th Anniversary Conference from June 28-July 1, 2008 in Hartford, CT. (Goal A)
4. Initiated and distributed to members and non-members a bi-monthly electronic newsletter to keep the campus public safety community informed about issues, programs, projects, and other initiatives. (Goal A)
