The Effects of Hazing on Campus Culture and Student Well-Being

This course examines the impact of hazing on campus culture, student development, and overall well-being. Participants will explore the psychological, social, and organizational factors that contribute to hazing practices and their consequences. Through case studies and prevention strategies, participants will learn how to foster safer, more inclusive campus communities.
• Examine the historical roots, definitions, and common forms of hazing, and analyze how hazing practices influence campus culture, group dynamics, and organizational identity.
• Evaluate the psychological, emotional, physical, and academic impacts of hazing on individual students, including both short-term and long-term effects on well-being.
• Explore the social and institutional factors that contribute to the persistence of hazing, including peer pressure, power structures, tradition, and organizational norms.
• Assess evidence-based prevention strategies, policies, and intervention programs designed to reduce hazing, promote student safety, and foster inclusive, healthy campus communities.
