Field Training Officer Program

Every Thursday for four weeks (January 15, 22, 29, February 5)
This course is designed to prepare experienced public safety personnel to serve as Field Training Officers (FTOs). Participants will learn the principles and best practices of training, coaching, and evaluating new recruits in real-world settings. Topics include adult learning strategies, effective communication, performance documentation, mentoring techniques, and managing common challenges faced during field training. The course emphasizes the dual role of the FTO as both trainer and role model, ensuring that new personnel develop the skills, judgment, and professionalism required for success. By the end of the course, learners will be equipped to foster competence, confidence, and accountability in the next generation of public safety professionals.
