IACLEA’s Mitigating Hate on Campus Series: Antisemitism Volume I
May 27 @ 11:00 am – 4:00 pm EDT
Antisemitism poses a serious and evolving threat to campus safety, community trust, and the well-being of Jewish students, staff, and faculty. Protecting Our Community: Public Safety’s Role in Addressing Antisemitism on Campus is a comprehensive training course designed to equip campus public safety professionals with the knowledge, awareness, and tools needed to recognize, investigate, and effectively respond to antisemitism. Through a series of focused sessions, participants will explore the historical and contemporary manifestations of antisemitism, learn to identify signs of bias and hate incidents, and gain insight into the broader emotional and social impact these acts have on campus communities.
The training progresses through foundational knowledge, practical recognition skills, and thoughtful response strategies. Morning sessions focus on defining antisemitism in the campus context, identifying behaviors and symbols of concern, understanding the ripple effects on targeted communities, and developing appropriate and timely safety responses. The afternoon sessions emphasize investigative procedures, the legal and ethical dimensions of responding to hate and bias, and the importance of collaboration across campus and community partners. The course concludes by fostering cultural competency and bias awareness, empowering officers to respond not only with professionalism but with empathy, respect, and a commitment to inclusive campus safety. This course prepares public safety officers to play a proactive and informed role in preventing antisemitism and promoting a climate of safety and belonging for all.
