Creating a Successful Move-In Plan for University Life

This course provides campus public safety officials with the tools and strategies needed to develop an effective student move-in plan. Participants will learn best practices for traffic management, safety coordination, emergency preparedness, and stakeholder communication. The course emphasizes creating a secure, efficient, and welcoming move-in experience that supports student success and campus safety.
• Develop and communicate a comprehensive move-in schedule that includes staggered arrival times, traffic flow patterns, parking procedures, and clear directions for students and families.
• Coordinate staffing, security, and emergency response resources to ensure a safe environment throughout the move-in process, including high-traffic areas, residence halls, and unloading zones.
• Implement safety protocols and risk management measures, such as crowd control, weather contingency plans, accessibility accommodations, and emergency communication procedures.
• Promote student well-being and community engagement by providing safety information, campus resources, orientation materials, and support services during the move-in experience.
